5 Ways to Stay Healthy for Busy Parents

Updated: Aug 26, 2019

Let's face it! Life is busy and when you have kids, time is more valuable than almost anything (well except for sleep and a good babysitter!). Parenting is the #1 challenging "job" on the planet. If you don't agree with me, chances are you aren't one.

TIME IS VALUABLE and I want to help you make the most of it. During your busy day to day life, staying healthy, fit, and achieving wellness is probably way outside of your focus. Usually it will enter your focus when you see someone you think looks amazing and how you would love to look this way. They leave your view, you think about for a few more minutes and then out of site, out of mind. Left to think about again when you try on your favorite jeans, again to wish you were 25 pounds less.

If this is your reality of what you need to do to get fit and into shape, I have GREAT NEWS for you. YOUR A BUSY PARENT. Ain't nobody got time to be spending at the gym for no 60 minutes a day! (LOL...I could almost hear myself talking like that famous lady who I am sure is a mom.)

Of course if this is you then congratulations, you are one of the few busy parents who has the time and resources to spend a good chunk of time hanging with the gym crowd. Maybe these tips aren't for you, but if they can still be helpful then so be it!

TIP #1 To Stay Healthy as a Busy Parent

I know you thought I would have a magic potion to drink that would change everything, but I am sorry. Tip # 1 is pretty basic, but I want you to think about it. How often are you doing it, how often do you avoid it, do you specifically have behaviors that make you avoid this...What is it?

WALK - just get out and walk whenever you can. Walk with the kids, park further away from the store to walk to the door, walk your dogs instead of just letting them out. "Fit" walking into your already busy life and you will burn more calories than ever over time that will lead to an improved overall life.

Drink Water and have fun!

TIP #2 To Stay Healthy as a Busy Parent

Drink a big ol glass of water first thing in the morning and then keep a water bottle with you. Hydration is important, however it will help you feel fuller and avoid eating sugary drinks like soda.

Did you staying hydrated helps keep you focused? Yup, it's true! Plus many times you know you haven't drank enough water due to the headache. Mix that with kids and there's nothing fun or healthy about that!

BONUS: Enjoy activities with your kids that involve water. We played a healthy game of water bingo the other night where you had to sip your water bottle if you didn't have a letter. Make the time you have with your kids fun and take advantage of teaching them healthy habits also.

Tip # 3 To Stay Healthy as a Busy Parent

Jumping Jax

Tip #4 To Stay Healthy as a Busy Parent

You don't need to dedicate 60 minutes a day to the gym to stay healthy. The key here is to move daily whenever you can. Do 25 jumping jacks everyday before you start your day. Large muscle groups when stimulated burn more calories and keep you burning during the day.

Improve your mood and lower your stress before you tackle your day!

Tip #5 To Stay Healthy as a Busy Parent

This is going to be hard but so worth it. Silence your cell phones at night. We need 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night. Quality of sleep does matter. Your cell phone distracts you from the deep sleep your body requires.

All your apps and messages going off on your phone prevents you from the deep sleep you need. Deep sleep restores energy, cell regeneration, strengthens your immune system, increases the blood supply to the muscles, and helps promote growth for tissue and and bone repair. Stay healthy and silence those phones! You make your kids do it at night, so should you!
